Street Tree Trends in Kansas and the Influence of Community Factors    (View PDF)

Richard L. Davis

Abstract: The purpose of this study was to examine trends in street trees of Kansas communities that participate in the Kansas Community Forestry Program and correlate factors in the community that may influence the status. Street tree inventory components analyzed included vigor according to condition class, monetary value, number of trees and species composition. Community factors relating to streettree prog rams were explored through a questionnaire. A study of street tree inventories from twenty-two communities revealed trends toward an increase in species diversity, an increase in the number of trees, and a decline in vigor. Monetary value increased and decreased in an equal number of communities.
