Herbicides and Chemophobia    (View PDF)

James J. Worman and Gordon W. Gribble

Abstract: Data support the use of chemicals as herbipides as a low-risk procedure when compared to the human health risks caused by other every-day activities. Because of their use as defoliants, specific herbicides, such as 2,4-D and 2,4,5- T, have come to the public's attention. These chemicals have a relatively low toxicity and high biodegradability and their overall effectiveness has helped the world overcome pestilence and poverty in many areas. Contrary to the myths that surround them, herbicides do not cause cancer when applied properly.
